Professional Medical Interpreter "Refresher" Courses

By popular request, Intersys is pleased to inform you that we'll be offering two unique 8-hour Professional Medical Interpreter "Refresher" courses. These courses will be target language (Spanish) specific and are designed to strengthen interpreter skills in preparation for either the NBCMI or CCHI national exams.

 

1) 8-Hour/Medical Terminology

​

Body Systems: Anatomy, Physiology, Musculoskeletal System, Endocrine System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Urinary System, Nervous System, Digestive System, Reproductive Systems, Integumentary System, Treatments, Acronyms and Abbreviations (e.g., MRI, CAT scan, etc.)

Medical Specialties: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Radiology, Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy, Urology and Nephrology, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Neurology Hematology, Dermatology, Psychiatry Respiratory Illness

2) 8-Hour Interpreter Skills

​

Roles of the Medical Interpreter: Role of Conduit, Role of Clarifier, Role of Culture Broker, Role of Patient Advocate.

 

Medical Interpreter Ethics: Confidentiality, Accuracy and completeness, Impartiality, Conflict of Interest, Scope of Practice, Disqualification/Impediments to Performance, Professional Courtesy, Professional Development.

 

Cultural Competence: Cultural practices related to healthcare Familial and relational structures.

 

Interpreter Standards of Practice: IMIA (International Medical Interpreters Association) Standards, NCIHC (National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare) Standards, CHIA (California Healthcare Interpreters Association) Standards.

Dates/Details:

8-Hour/Medical Terminology- Tuesday afternoons- from 1:00pm-5:00pm MDT

​

Live on-line class via ZOOM. Total of 8 hours, 4 hour sessions over two weeks.

 

Total Cost: $250.00 per person or Early Bird price of $200.00 if paid by deadline.
