If you grab a number 🎟️, do you still wait in line🧍🏻⁉️ #LifeBeforeViral

Let me share an experience with you all that I had recently when I went to my local supermarket. I was there to purchase some ready to eat takeout 🥘 food. The line was quite long so I grabbed a number to wait my turn.

There were 6 numbers before mine so in the interim, I went to the cafe ☕️ that was within eyesight to grab an espresso and croissant 🥐. It was delicious 😋 .

As my number was getting closer to being called, I went to the food display to see what I wanted so that I wouldn’t waste any time submitting my order when I got called up.

While I looked at the available food options, I noticed a gentleman low key blocking my way with his body language so as to insinuate that he was there before me. I disregarded it since I had my number in hand.

Here in lies my question to this post. Do you still physically wait in line if you have a number reserved in hand❓ My answer is simply: No. That would defeat the purpose of taking a number 🤷🏻‍♂️.

What ended up happening is that when my number was finally called, I went up to the counter to order my food and that same gentleman stood next to me noticeably upset 😠. I finished my order and kept it moving to the cashier.

I could see from a distance the gentleman speaking with the employee and pointing 👉🏽 in my direction perplexed by what had just happened. He clearly felt slighted and overlooked. While I empathized, I felt no guilt. I actually felt illuminated by the whole experience.

What’s the lesson❓ In business we may need to “grab a number” in order to get to where we want to be. That doesn’t mean we stand idle while we wait for our number to be called. Rather, we should continue making the best use of our time, stay busy, but enjoy life ☀️.

Know where you stand and just be ready for when your number is called. Don’t get distracted with what others are doing. Stay focused on the task at hand and you’ll be just fine 😉.

Best,
